Well, The hot cake of Engineering students/others in the plans to pursue MS in US is cracking GRE(however,they blabber when asked about the full form of G.R.E :P <GRADUATE RECORD EXAM> )!! Most of the students attempt it and test their luck. Verbal section of GRE is of high standard, Ofcourse students pester their brain using all the skills(mnemonics,flashcards,dictionaries wateva ...) only for the purpose of Gre. This is ofcourse disappointing, having such a database of words in your memory and not putting them into your communication is foolishness. Well, the point here is "learn words but don't leave em after exam". Anyways, Iam gonna post words from the famous "HARRY POTTER SERIES"(for ardent fans of HP(Iam one of 'em)) well there are lot of words we read but often lost from our memory. Just match the situations/characters and you are good to go. Well, this is also kinda memory skill<mnemonic??>
1. MOLLIFY=SOOTHE
Remember Molly Weasley,Ron's mother She always soothes/comforts Harry! right? thats a good way to remember.
2.NARCISSISM=SELF LOVE
Narcissa Molfoy, Molfoys are ofcourse proud of their pure blood status. So, Narcissism(self love) can be easily remembered
3. PUGNACIOUS=COMBATIVE
Op'pug'no is a spell that can attack the target!!
4.INCENDIARY=CAPABLE OF CAUSING FIRE
Remember Incendio spell; its a firemaking spell
5.FELICITY=LUCK,HAPPINESS
Remember felix felicis>?? luck potion
6.ACCEDE=YIELD,AGREE
The spell "accio" can summon anything <well, "accio gre" can get you no where :P>
7.CONFOUND=ASTOUND,PUZZLED
confundo spell is derived from here
8. IMPEDIMENT=OBSTACLE,HINDRANCE
Impedimenta is mostly seen in HP books
9.IMPERIOUS=DOMINEERING<USED TO BEING OBEYED>
Imperio curse makes others yield to the dominating ones
10.IMPERVIOUS=IMPENETRABLE
used as a 'repelling' agent
11.OCCLUDE=BLOCK
Occlumency is suggested by Dumbledore so that harry can block his memory invasion
12.OBLIVION=THE STATE OF BEING UNAWARE
obliviate erases memory
13.SONOUROUS=PRODUCING RICH SOUND
Ludo bagman at Quidditch cup intensifies the sound(microphone using wand) using "sonorous"
14.PETRIFY=SHOCKED
15.STUPEFY=DUMFOUND,DEADEN
16.DRACONIAN=EXCEEDINGLY HARSH
